QUALIFICATION

By reaching the final at the 2005 European Championship in Leipzig the Netherlands were qualified. Due to the good results of the European teams at the 2004 Olympic Games the runner-up of the European Championship is entitled to the sixth place for direct qualification.

COACH

Roelant Oltmans born in 1954 has come back as head coach in 2005 after he had acted as first foreign coach for Pakistan from 2003 – 2004. Oltmans had worked for the KNHB before guiding the team to their first gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and the 1998 World Cup in Utrecht.

He was coach of the ladies team from 1989 – 1993; with this team he won the 1990 World Cup. He made an excursion to football and Maarten Westermann wrote a book about him: "Hockey is mijn leven".
